Alone

I can do this.
I have, I am, and I will.

Not just this new bit of time.
Nearly a year now
I've done it all on my own.

Hauled myself over mountains of decisions,
Swam through oceans of explanations,
Fought off wild beasts of fear and doubt.

I thought it would be enough.
(It's enough for me.)
I thought I had proven myself.
(I've proven it to myself.)

But still...

I'm not afraid to go it alone.
I know it's worth the work
and the journey never ends.

Although company would be nice,
not just any warm body will do.

But if he can match my spirit's stride,
and show me the universe in his eyes,
we can learn to be alone together.
